| File Description | .AAC files are similar to the prevalent .MP3 file, but provide various improvements: a higher compression efficiency, a simpler filterbank, and better handling of frequencies above 16 kHz. AAC files keep nearly original audio quality indistinguishable from the original audio sample. Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) is the default audio compression method used by Apple iTunes and the iTunes Store. However, the ".aac" extension is only sometimes used for AAC-encoded files. They are typically saved with an .M4A file extension. |

When you double click AAC files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected AAC file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open AAC files on WindowsRight-click on the AAC file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the AAC file opener. If you decide to always open AAC files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
b) Select another application to open AAC files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of AAC files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your AAC file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default AAC file opener app.
