.CUT File Format
CUT is a device-independent bitmap image file originally designed for Dr. Halo software by Media Cybernetics. It supports 8 bits per pixel for a total of 256 colors. CUT format is widely used because it's quick to decompress and easy to read by programs, but hard to compress due to its low efficient compression scheme.
CUT requires another file, called PAL, to define colors. Therefore, CUT files will display as grayscale images if there doesn't exist a PAL file. s
