| File Description | FLV is a container format used to play video/audio over the Internet using Adobe Flash Player versions 6–11. It consists of a short header, interleaved audio, video, and metadata. It's very easy to get confused between SWF and FLV, both of which could be created with Adobe Flash. In fact, SWF is a proprietary file format for multimedia and especially for vector graphics, while FLV is an open format that is also supported by non-Adobe programs, for encoding multimedia data. You can always see the videos on the website like YouTube, Facebook, MySpace, etc. Usually, you can directly embed SWF on a page and get it played with Adobe Flash Player, but you cannot directly embed FLV. If you want to play the FLV on your website, you need to embed it to a player. To some extent, SWF file can be divided into two parts: the Flash Video (animation content) and the SWF player (usually Adobe Flash Player). |

When you double click FLV files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected FLV file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open FLV files on WindowsRight-click on the FLV file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the FLV file opener. If you decide to always open FLV files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
b) Select another application to open FLV files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of FLV files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your FLV file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default FLV file opener app.
