.MP2 File Format
MP2 is an audio format that uses MPEG-1 Layer II compression method. It's defined by ISO/IEC 11172-3 alongside MPEG-1 Audio Layer I and MPEG-1 Audio Layer III (MP3). Although MP2 is replaced by the prevalent MP3, it's still used for television broadcasts and online radio.
The standard MPEG-1 Layer II audio format supports sampling rates of 32kHz, 44.1kHz, and 48 kHz and bitrates from 32kbps to 320 kbps. Note that MP2 format is an MPEG-1 audio file, not an MPEG-2 video file which usually has an .MPG file extension name.
