| File Description | PICT, introduced with Apple Macintosh computer and QuickDraw, is the grphic file format for both vector and bitmap images on Mac. It contains image data in PICT 1 or PICT 2. The former is older and only supports 8 colors, while the latter supports 24-bit and 32-bit images with thousand of colors. PICT also supports RLE (Run-length encoding) and JPEG compression to reduce the file size. The PICT format has largely deprecated to the more flexible .PCT file extension on the Windows platform. |

When you double click PICT files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected PICT file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open PICT files on WindowsRight-click on the PICT file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the PICT file opener. If you decide to always open PICT files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
b) Select another application to open PICT files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of PICT files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your PICT file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default PICT file opener app.
