.SRF File Format

As its name indicated, SRF is the Sony's proprietary raw image format saved by digital cameras owned by Sony for digital photography. It stores image data in an uncompressed format with conditions of the camera's sensor when taking the photos. The information included in the SRF files such as color temperature and exposure can be adjusted after the image is transferred to your computer.

SRF files contain static content and special replacement tags (a.k.s stencil) that can be processed with dynamically generated content by the ATL Server.

The file "login.srf" is well-known for secure websites with ATL server. It verifies the user's username and password, sends a cookie back to the browser, and opens the secure page.

3D appearance file created by LightWave 3D, a modeling and rendering application; stores the options selected in the Surface Editor window, which is used to specify the surface appearance of a 3D object; used for saving and reusing presets.

Surface files save information such as color, shading, luminosity, specularity, glossiness, and transparency.

Steinberg Cubase is a multiple track audio recording application, and SRF is the skin files that stores bitmap images and the locations of the bitmaps on the program's graphics user interface (GUI). By using skin files, users can easily change the appearance of the application.

Below are the default location for Cubese's skin files:

For Windows: The "skins" directory within the Cubase application installation, usually C:\Program Files\Steinberg\skins\

For Mac OS X: They can be found in the Contents/Resources or Contents/skins of the application package (right click to choose "Show Package Contents").
