| File Description | 7Z is a compressed file format that is designed with Igor Pavlov's 7-Zip file compression utility. It supports multiple data compression and encryption algorithm. However, LZMA compression is used by default for high compression ratio. The strong AES-256 (256-bit) encryption and unicode file names are fully supported. The 7-Zip archever is the default program to open 7Z files. It is publicly released under the terms of the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). |

When you double click 7Z files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected 7Z file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open 7Z files on WindowsRight-click on the 7Z file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the 7Z file opener. If you decide to always open 7Z files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
b) Select another application to open 7Z files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of 7Z files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your 7Z file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default 7Z file opener app.
