| File Description | JP2 is the standardized file name extension for JPEG 2000 image compression standard and core system. Different from the standard JPEG images with Digital Cosine Transform (DCT) compression method, JP2 adds a wavelet compression algorithm to achieve lossless compression, apart from lossy compression. Besides JP2, .JPX files also employ JPEG 2000 standard. Compared to JP2, JPX may include mechanisms for animation or composition of several code streams into one single image. |

When you double click JP2 files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected JP2 file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open JP2 files on WindowsRight-click on the JP2 file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the JP2 file opener. If you decide to always open JP2 files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
b) Select another application to open JP2 files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of JP2 files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your JP2 file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default JP2 file opener app.
