| File Description | MP4 is an international standard container format used to store video streams, audio streams and other data like still image and subtitles. MP4 is developed by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) based on QuickTime file format. MP4 files use separate compression for audio and video tracks. Video streams are compressed with MPEG-4 video encoding, while audio streams is compressed using AAC encoding, the same type of audio compression used in .AAC files. Being an international stardard, MP4 video format is widely supported by most video programs and a variety of hardware devices such as Sony PSP, Microsoft Zune portable media player, camcorder, etc. |

When you double click MP4 files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected MP4 file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open MP4 files on WindowsRight-click on the MP4 file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the MP4 file opener. If you decide to always open MP4 files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
b) Select another application to open MP4 files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of MP4 files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your MP4 file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default MP4 file opener app.
