File Description | TGA is a bitmap image format designed by Truevision (so-called Truvision TGA). It was the native format of TARGA and VISTA boards, which were the first graphic cards for IBM-compatible PCs. TGA supports 8, 16, 24, or 32 bits per pixel at a maximum of 24 bits for RGB colors and 8-bit alpha channel. In the past, TGA was usually used to store texture files for video games. Nowadays, the compressed alternatives such as DirectDraw Surface is widely used instead, but due to its simplicity and speed, TGA is often still used for saving screenshots. |
