File Description | ZIP is the most widely used compressed file format that is supported by most file compression/decompression programs. A zip file may include one or more files that have been compressed with a number of compression algorithms, including DEPLATE, bzip2, LZMA, WavePack, PPMd, etc. Both Windows and Mac operating systems fully support ZIP format. Windows and Mac users can create ZIP archives by right-clicking and choosing corresponding command from the menu. WinZip is one well-known zip tool running on Windows and WinRAR, 7-Zip, PeaZip and DotNetZip are other ZIP file extractors. |

When you double click ZIP files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected ZIP file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open ZIP files on WindowsRight-click on the ZIP file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the ZIP file opener. If you decide to always open ZIP files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'. b) Select another application to open ZIP files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of ZIP files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your ZIP file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default ZIP file opener app. |
