File Description | WMA is a proprietary format developed by Microsoft, as part of the WIndows Media framework. WMA includes 4 codecs: the original WMA, designed as a competitor to .MP3 and RealAudio, often using for Internet content; WMA Pro for multichannel and high resolution audio; WMA Lossless for high-fidelity audio; WMA Voice for voice content. Other formats of Windows Media framework include .WMV, WPL, etc. To play WMA files on Mac with Windows Media Player, you have to install Flip4Mac WMV (also known as Microsoft Windows Media Components for QuickTime) . WMA files cannot be played on an iPod. But you can convert WMA to MP3 before transferring to iPod. |

When you double click WMA files on computer, the associated program will be launched to open the selected WMA file. But you can change it to any program at your pleasure. a) Select a program to open WMA files on WindowsRight-click on the WMA file and go through 'Open with' > 'Choose default program'. In the pop-up windows, choose a program as the WMA file opener. If you decide to always open WMA files with the program, only check the option 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'. b) Select another application to open WMA files on MacFirst Get Info about any one of WMA files by right-clicking or Command-I, and click 'Open with' arrow to choose a program to start your WMA file. Click 'Change All' button to set the selected application as the default WMA file opener app. |
